Hello BBC Radio 1 addicts! Here’s your next dose of news.

The BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards were announced this morning on The Chris Moyles Show with Scott Mills. It was furthermore announced that the new Radio 1 Breakfast Show DJ, Nick Grimshaw will once again present this year’s ceremony. Performing will be American singer Taylor Swift, singer Connor Maynard, last year’s winners of The X Factor Little Mix and headlining are One Direction.

The event will come live from Wembley Arena on Sunday 7th October 2012 where celebrities from music, entertainment, and sport will be recognised for their hard work and dedication.

Niall Horan from One Direction commented on the news:

“It was so much fun last year and it’s a great line-up. It’s always good to be on a great bill. And obviously with the teen hero award, it’s an award for people who have done amazing things, obviously it’s great to be part of that as well.”

More importantly, Radio 1 are asking people to nominate someone who has done something benevolent, done something to helpful somebody which is out of the ordinary. If you know who that is you can nominate that person for the award by logging into the Teen Awards website. The person must be aged between 12 and 17 and be a resident of the UK.

Radio 1’s commissioning editor, Piers Bradford told Radio 1 Newsbeat:

“Giving us the chance to celebrate some amazing young people and giving a platform to these inspiring stories is what makes Radio 1’s Teen Awards such a special event.”
