Sara Cox will fill-in for Fearne Cotton later this year

10 Aug

Hello BBC Radio 1 addicts! Here’s your next dose of news.

A few days ago Fearne Cotton announced she was pregnant meaning she would be taking some time off on maternity leave. BBC Radio 1 yesterday confirmed that no plans had been made on her replacement as of yet. However, this morning BBC Radio 1’s Press Office via their Twitter feed confirmed that former breakfast DJ and now weekend presenter, Sara Cox will temporary replace her later this year.

It was confirmed this morning:

We have news! We can confirm that the wonderful @sarajcox will be filling in for Fearne when she goes on maternity!”

Cox then retweeted that post to her followers adding the hashtag “#soochuffed”.

The Speculation has started on Chris Moyles’ new show

Currently, no timing has been announced of when morning BBC Radio 1 DJ and TV Presenter Fearne Cotton will go on maternity leave however it is expected to be later this year.

What’s my view?

I for one was half hoping Chris Moyles was to temporary replace Fearne Cotton however thinking about it now I’m not too sure if that would have been for the best. Maybe he will cover her weekend show. Sara Cox is a great presenter, a year younger than Chris Moyles though. With the station currently being criticised on the age of their audience I thought they may have put some fresh, new talent in for Fearne such as Matt Edmundson, maybe Gemma Cairney may I say, Phil Taggart or even Jameela Jamil . Even though at times they do annoy me a little. However, having said that I wish all the best to Sara Cox.
