11 Jul

Hello BBC Radio 1 addicts! Here’s some BREAKING NEWS.

Chris Moyles successor is Nick Grimshaw. He currently presents the ten o’clock to midnight slot Monday to Thursday and regularly sits in for Scott Mills as well as sitting in for Greg James in the past. He’s been home to that show since 2009 and also does TV work on the weekend with T4.

The DJ started off at BBC Switch and also presented the weekend breakfast show many years ago. The northern DJ started his love for broadcasting on student radio at Liverpool University whilst studying Business.

This is what Nick Grimshaw (Grimme) had to say about the exciting news:

“I’m super excited to be hosting the iconic Radio 1 Breakfast Show, it’s been a dream of mine since the age of 11 and to be honest it hasn’t really sunk in yet. I love Chris and have always looked up to him as one of the best broadcasters ever.”

Ben Cooper, controller at BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra congratulated Nick on his new position :

Nick is a great broadcaster with a passion for music and a mischievous sense of humour, which has made him a hit with our listeners. He will be an excellent host for Radio 1’s new breakfast show, bringing a new generation of listeners with him.”

There has been loads of speculation about this slot with the majority of newspapers reporting that Greg James would takeover from Chris Moyles once he leaves. However, speculation has proved to be wrong as BBC Radio 1 throw a curveball in and announce night-time DJ, Nick Grimshaw as the station’s new weekday breakfast DJ. New 4-7 presenter, Greg James currently on holiday commented on the news via Twitter:

PS. I have JUST got R1’s Drivetime show at the age of 26. I am living out my dream and having the time of my life. Today isn’t about me.
